Bilateral Pseudoexfoliation Deposits on Intraocular Lens Implants
We present a rare case of bilateral pseudoexfoliative deposits on both intraocular lens (IOL) implants in an 83-year-old woman with no other associated pathology, 5 years after cataract surgery. Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is the most common cause of secondary open-angle glaucoma worldwide and these deposits are usually found on the natural lens. The fact that pseudoexfoliative deposits have bee...
متن کاملIntraocular lens implant.
In the past, patients with uniocular cataracts who underwent cataract extraction were not able to tolerate aphakic spectacles due to 30% magnification of visual images thus giving rise to diplopia. The other alternative was to use contact lens which needed motivation. Some could not tolerate contact lens and its magnification of 5% to 7%. These failures eventually led to the idea of intraocular...
متن کاملPosterior dislocation of an intraocular lens implant and its removal.
The cause of dislocation of an intraocular lens is a direct blow or jerk, and dislocation may complicate both iris-supported and capsule-supported lenses. In capsule-supported lenses the implant dislocates towards the anterior chamber but in iris-supported lenses the dislocation is posterior. A technique for removal of a posterity dislocated lens is described.
متن کاملSpontaneous Resolution of Deposits on the Surface of an Intraocular Lens after Ahmed Valve Implantation
Dear Editor, Deposits, composed mainly of calcium-containing mixtures or inflammatory cells [1-4], may form on the surface of an intraocular lens (IOL) implanted during cataract surgery. In severe cases, a significant decrease in visual acuity may necessitate IOL replacement [1]. In this case report, we describe a patient who had refractory deposits on an IOL that spontaneously disappeared afte...
متن کاملChanges in Anterior Chamber Depth after Phacoemulsification in Pseudoexfoliative Eyes and their Effect on Accuracy of Intraocular Lens Power Calculation
OBJECTIVES To compare anterior chamber depth (ACD) changes after phacoemulsification surgery in patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PEX) and normal patients using an anterior segment imaging method. Another aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of these changes on the accuracy of intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation and postoperative refraction. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-t...
